A disinformation game in development
The Media & Learning Association is in the process of developing an active learning game aimed at 14-16 year old students to help them acquire the skills to spot fake news. A first international version (ENG) of this online game will be ready for testing in Spring.

Oproep: docenten en bibliothecarissen gezocht voor train-de-trainer en workshops over nepnieuws
Ben jij docent of bibliothecaris en wil je jongeren weerbaarder maken tegen desinformatie en nepnieuws? Doe dan mee met het internationale mediawijsheidproject SMILES. In dit project vergroten bibliothecarissen en docenten met nieuwe methodes hun kennis en vaardigheden rond het herkennen en bestrijden van nepnieuws. Met die expertise kunnen ze jongeren tussen 12 en 15 jaar verder helpen. Dit traject wordt uitgevoerd in scholen en bibliotheken in Nederland, België en Spanje.

A recent study into disinformation in Belgium, The Netherlands and Spain revealed that a primary strategy for combatting the spread of disinformation is the implementation of educational programs and citizen training.
This study, carried out in the context of the EU supported SMILES project, investigated the overall situation of digital media literacy education in these countries and found that many of these strategies are supported by government bodies. However, lack of policy, continuity and dependence on individual, once-off initiatives remain pressing challenges.

SMILES is an international project where six organisations from three countries are collaborating to develop and test innovative approaches to combating the spread of fake news. The project is led by KB, the National Library of the Netherlands and the other partners are the Institute of Sound and Vision and The Hague University of Applied Sciences from the Netherlands, Fundación Goteo/Platoniq from Spain, and Public Libraries 2030 and the Media and Learning Association both of whom will focus on the situation in Belgium.
